This week, we’re shining a bright spotlight on the amazing volunteers who give their time, energy, and heart to support people across the London Borough of Bromley.
Volunteers contribution last year
Over the past year, Bromley Well Volunteers have contributed over 37,500 hours —the equivalent of 19 full-time staff. Without them, we simply couldn’t do all that we do.
Volunteering: the heart of our community
From helping people access vital services to offering a friendly chat to someone who’s feeling isolated, our volunteers are involved in a wide range of roles that make a real difference. They support wellbeing, independence, and connection across our community, offering their time, skills and work / life experience free of charge.
Our Volunteers bring invaluable skills and life experience. They are supported by our Volunteer Managers who provide comprehensive training, guidance and relevant checks to ensure they can volunteer with confidence.
Volunteering impact January - March 2025
In just 3 months...
- 16 Volunteers worked alongside our 2.6 FTE paid staff in our frontline Contact Centre, helping residents use Bromley Well’s services. Between them, they answered over 2080 calls during these 3 months.
- 137 official forms were completed with the help of our Volunteers. These Volunteers visit or call vulnerable and isolated residents helping them complete often lengthy, complex forms.
- Alleviating loneliness - Some of our Volunteers stepped up to be “matched” with residents for befriending support, providing community connection and a friendly chat for residents who otherwise might not see or speak to another person for days.
- 50 Volunteers helped over 300 residents with their benefits, housing, debt and employment issues.
“Volunteering helps us to help our community,” says a spokesperson from Bromley Well. “It’s a powerful reminder that doing these often complex jobs and carrying out acts of kindness, can have a huge impact.”
David Walker CEO at Bromley Third Sector Enterprise said,
“This Volunteers Week we’re saying a heartfelt thank you to every volunteer who helps deliver Bromley Well services. You are at the heart of our community—and we are very grateful for all that you do to make Bromley a better place to live for so many.”
“Our volunteers are the backbone of so many of our services,” said Mark Ellison, Chief Executive of Bromley Well partner charity, Age UK Bromley and Greenwich. “Their dedication and compassion inspire us every day, and we are deeply thankful for the difference they make.”
Why do people volunteer?
People volunteer for many reasons:
- To give back to their community
- To learn new skills or gain experience
- To meet new people and build confidence
- Or simply because it feels good to help others!
Whatever the motivation, the rewards are mutual. Volunteering is not just about giving—it’s also about growing.
